Sad Boy Chess Club ♕ Sad Boy Chess Club ♗ Sad Boy Chess Club ♚

Sad Boy Chess Club (SBCC) is a supportive and low-pressure group designed for boys ages 10 - 12 who might be feeling down, left out, anxious, or disconnected from peers. SBCC is a weekly rolling group that your child can join at any time. Through learning and playing chess, kids build not only strategy skills, but confidence, emotional intelligence, and friendships as well. While some knowledge of chess may be helpful, beginners are welcome too! See below to learn more!

    • Weekly meetups with a mix of chess lessons, casual games, and emotional check-ins aimed at building peer bonds

    • Light group discussions about feelings, school, friendships, and more

    • A stigma-free, mentorship-style environment fostered by fellow players and group leader

    • Focus on connection, kindness, social skill building, and growth with a sprinkle of healthy competition

    • Occasional tournament-style meetings

    • Boys ages 10 - 12 who struggle with depression, anxiety, social isolation, and peer disconnection

    • All chess experience levels welcome! I can teach your child to play chess if needed, and members will be strategically paired based on skill level.

    • This is a rolling group that your child can join at any time. We meet every other week on Mondays at 4PM for one hour.

    • In order to join the group, your child must complete an individual intake appointment to ensure he is a good fit for the group. If you are a current client at Counseling with Corey, you will not need to complete a separate intake.

  • You can choose to pay out-of-pocket or use insurance for this group. The self-pay rate is $30 per session.

Due to insurance requiring a diagnosis be submitted for group therapy, you must complete an individual counseling intake appointment prior to the group beginning if you choose to use insurance. Your out-of-pocket cost is determined by your insurance. Please refer to the FAQ page for more inforrmation about which insurances I accept.

  • If you believe that this group would be a good fit for you, or if you want to learn more, please reach out to me using the contact form below. We can correspond via email or schedule a brief phone consultation to ensure you are a good fit!
